Cryolipolysis & Cryo-Lean 360

Cryolipolysis & Cryo-Lean 360

Are you frustrated by those  stubborn areas of fat that persist no matter how much you diet and exercise? Let STAR Health help you significantly reduce those areas with our sophisticated technology, and then show you how to keep extra fat off through our Integrative Medicine Clinic.

What is cryolipolysis?

Cryolipolysis, commonly referred to as fat freezing, is a nonsurgical option to reduce unyielding fat deposits that do not respond to diet or exercise. It is not a cure for obesity.

STAR Health’s Cryo-Lean 360 device combines cryolipolysis with pulsed shockwave therapy to gain the added benefits of targeted fat reduction with body toning. Body toning that occurs as pulsed or focused shockwave therapy has been scientifically shown to recondition connective tissue.

What areas of the body are best suited for cryolipolysis?

Cryolipolysis is FDA approved to target fat deposits beneath the chin (jowls), upper arms, inner and outer thighs, abdomen, hip/flank (“love handles”), upper back (“brassiere rolls”), lower back, and underneath the buttocks.

How is cryolipolysis performed?

The procedure is undertaken in a doctor’s office or outpatient clinic. Patients are awake and remain comfortable throughout the procedure, without requiring anesthesia or sedation.

Gel pads are applied to protect the targeted areas. Four large body paddles are then placed over the gel pads to allow treatment of two areas simultaneously. A handheld attachment is used for neckline and facial fat reduction as well as cryo-facials to help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and increase collagen production. Each treatment session last 35 minutes.

The patient may experience some initial tingling, stinging, aching or cramping until the target zone becomes numb from the freezing. The target temperature range is between 30 and 39°F.

How are fat cells destroyed?

Science has proven that fat cells are more susceptible to damage from cold temperatures than other cells. Consequently, STAR Health’s Cryo-Lean 360 Device  can selectively target and destroy fat cells without damaging other tissue. The injured fat cells signal macrophages or white blood cells in your body to remove the dead fat cells and debris.

How much localized fat can one expect to lose from cryolipolysis and when will I start to notice results?

Initial changes are often noted within the first 3 to 6 weeks following treatment. Dramatic improvement typically follows in 2 to 4 months – – with the average fat reduction between 15 and 28%.

What are the advantages of cryolipolysis?

There are many advantages cryolipolysis over conventional surgical approaches including:

  • It is a simple outpatient procedure which does not require sedation or anesthesia.
  • More than one region of the body may be treated in a single session
  • Significantly less risk without bleeding, damage to adjacent skin or chance of infection
  • No surgical incision
  • It can be safely performed on patients of all ages and skin types

What are the limitations or possible complications of cryolipolysis?

  • It is only recommended in people with good general health.
  • The results are gradual, taking up to 3 to 6 months for an optimal outcome.
  • Uncommonly, some patients note skin surface irregularity following healing.
  • Very infrequent side effects include weight gain (which may depend on patient’s lifestyle) and a rare condition known as paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (more common in men and Hispanics) where fat cells hypertrophy (become larger).
  • There is a risk that the skin surface may be irregular/not smooth after healing.
  • More than one session may be needed to achieve a person’s desired results.
  • 4 weeks is the mandatory interval between treatment sessions to allow for damaged fat cells to be eliminated from the body.

Are there any contraindications or people for whom cryolipolysis is not recommended?

The procedure is not recommended for people who have the following conditions:

  • Obesity
  • Skin damage including cuts or injuries, severe varicose veins, or dermatitis
  • Auto immune disorders including: eczema or psoriasis, Reynaud’s phenomenon, cryoglobulinemia, paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria, cold urticaria, and cold agglutinin disease
  • Pregnancy or breast-feeding
  • Nerve disorders affecting the intended target zone, including diabetic neuropathy

What can I expect during the recovery period following cryolipolysis?

Patients may experience temporary discomfort for a few days to a few weeks following treatments including:

  • mild aches or pain
  • numbness and tingling
  • swelling
  • skin discoloration

How many cryolipolysis treatment sessions are typically needed?

STAR Health will customize a treatment plan to achieve your desired goals. Typically the most favorable results are obtained within 4 to 8 treatments depending on your condition and objectives.
