What is microchanneling?
Microchanneling is a minimally invasive, advanced technology used to promote the regeneration of connective tissue (collagen, elastin and skin restoring proteins) within the skin. It has been shown to work on the face, neck, chest, hands, as well as other body areas.
How does microchanneling work?
Microchanneling uses a small device to create microscopic openings or channels in the skin (at roughly the depth of a standard business card thickness). These channels stimulate the proliferation of new connective tissue with greater strength and elasticity. They also allow greater penetration of special serums used in combination with the procedure to further speed the restoration and healing processes.
What are the benefits of microchanneling?
Microchanneling devices such as the NanoStamp 360 deployed at STAR Health have multiple positive effects by promoting the regeneration of the epidermidis or outer layer of the skin. The result is skin that is more healthy, vibrant, moist, and a better protective barrier. As a host of cellular mechanics are up-regulated by microchanneling, including: collagen synthesis, angiogenesis (and growth of new blood vessels), and extra cellular matrix remodeling – – it is truly a microscopic innovation in skin care, well beyond traditional topical methods.
While microchanneling has strong theoretical foundations, the clinician must bridge the gaps between physiology, theory, and each patient specific skin presentation and objectives.
The effects of microchanneling often remain evident for months to a year at a time.
What are the risks associated with microchanneling?
Because microchanneling only involves the outermost layer of the skin, there is little to no risk of infection, bleeding or serious complication. While you may experience slight discomfort, redness, or puffiness of the treated area – – those signs typically diminish within a few days. The special serums used during and after micro channeling procedures that contain non-toxic/natural products (such as hyaluronic acid and peptides) help to speed the healing process and ensure optimal results.
When can I begin to see results from microchanneling?
While many patients notice immediate results, it’s important to set your expectations before undergoing microchannel treatments. Keep in mind that the purpose of microchanneling is to recondition and restore your skin’s connective tissue. Much like athletic conditioning of your body, it takes repetitions. Typically the best results are achieved within 4 to 12 sessions depending on the severity and extent of skin changes.
